You are getting sleepy, very sleepy… Doesn’t this sweet, sleeping sloth face make you wish for a hammock in the shade for a nice nap, dreaming of tropical locales? If you’re like me, sloths always make you smile:-) They’re one of my favorite animals to sculpt. This time, I’ve sculpted a Hoffmann’s Two-toed Sloth. I sculpted the sloth and branch with Super Sculpey polymer clay, no molds were used. I then painted the sculpture with acrylic paints and a polycrylic coating was used for protection and to bring out the vibrancy of the paints. The finished sculpture is permanently attached to a basswood plank and is ready for hanging in a special spot.

Fun facts: Hoffmann’s Two-toed Sloths are native to Central and South America. They’re a more heavily built sloth, and their front feet have only two toes, while the back have three. They live in trees, are solitary and nocturnal. They like trees with vines or lianas, and some sunlight. They mostly eat tree leaves, though fruits and flowers are part of their diet, too. You can learn much more at Wikipedia here.

SIZE: The wood plank measures about 9 1/2" wide by about 13" high, and the entire piece is 3 1/4" thick. It weights 3 lbs. 3.4 oz. The sloth and branch are about 8" long by about 7" wide.

Hi, I’m Nancy. I am a self-taught artist and I have a passion for sculpting. My love of animals and nature are a part of me and I love to create my original pieces using polymer clay. I strive for realism in my renditions and sincerely hope you enjoy my sculptures. Birds, horses, big cats, and dogs are among my top favorites (and sloths!). Special requests are always welcome.
